It has been a little while since I’ve done a “How To” post! You can read my last one here. Today I wanted to share a little bit about how you can have a more Christ centered Christmas this year.
Each Christmas the church I attend launches an initiative to focus more on the true meaning of Christmas. You have probably seen the #LightTheWorld throughout your social media. If you’ve wondered what it’s all about, here is a little video to introduce the initiative to you.
Each day, for 25 days leading up to Christmas, you can participate in acts of service based on the theme of the day. For example, today is day 6! The theme of today comes from Matthew 7:1 “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” The challenge today is to avoid passing judgement on others as we continue to try to be like Jesus.
I love the #LightTheWorld Challenge because it helps me see ways I can serve others each day. I can tie my service to scriptures in the bible from Christ’s life. In a world that is becoming increasingly more commercial, I am grateful to be able to focus my attention more fully on the Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the reason for this Holiday Season. Don’t get me wrong, I love the music and the presents and the food and the family time, but none of that matters without Jesus Christ.
Speaking of the reason for the season, have you heard of the movie “The Star?” Over the Thanksgiving break we went and saw it because we knew all the grandkids could enjoy it. Here’s a trailer if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Take your kids. It’s such a cute way to remind them of that first Christmas.
But back to #LightTheWorld. If this sounds like something you would like to do to remember the reason for the season, visit http://www.mormon.org
This initiative has helped me focus my attention on Jesus Christ this Christmas season.
