Weekend Watchlist

Hello again friends!! I wanted to start off the blog today wishing my parents a happy anniversary!! My parents have always been superb examples to me of love, fidelity, and happiness in marriage. I work hard every day to emulate them and adopt the qualities that have made their marriage successful, fulfilling, and joyous for 23 years!

It’s that time again!! The weekend has come. With the colder weather you’re sure to be cuddling up with you husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, dog/cat for an evening in. I mean come on! It’s the weekend! I’ve got another weekend watchlist ready for you today, so sit back and let the binge commence.

TV Shows

Sorry guys, but this first TV show is NOT a recommendation. This is more of a scathing negative review… Okay, maybe not scathing, but consider this a public service announcement. I started this TV show a few weekends ago when I was super sick. I stuck with it for a few episodes because I wanted to give it a fair shot. So here’s the thing, the premise of the show is cool. Basically the animals in the world are learning that they don;t have to be inferior to humans and can fight back. Kind of sounds like Planet of the Apes (movies I LOVE by the way). The issue is that their attacks are a little graphic, the acting is sub-par, and the visual effects are not totally great. Over all I thought it was a cool story but it just fell short of the mark. Don’t waste your time.

Hawaii Five-0

Hawaii Five 0

The premise of this show is that the Five-0 is a police task force in Hawaii. They do it all! Their team consists of two cousins, born and raised in Hawaii, their captain Steve McGarret (a military man), and his partner Danny Williams from New Jersey. You’ll also meet a hilarious confidential informant who happens to own a shrimp truck, and many other characters you can’t help but love.

Hawaii Five-0 is quite possibly one of my favorite crime shows on television. Like honestly if I’m flipping on Netflix to watch a show, I choose Hawaii Five-0 or Blue Bloods (which you can read about here). This is a modern remake of a classic. With modern special effects, great writing, and a stellar cast, this could easily be a favorite for you too. And trust me, it just gets better with every season!! “Book ’em Danno.”

Stranger Things

Stranger Things

If you have not jumped on the Stranger Things bandwagon, you are seriously missing out. The best way I can think to describe Stranger Things is that it’s like a cross between “The Goonies” and “Super Eight.” The story is set in the 1980’s. Cue the amazing music, wardrobe, oblivious parents, and adventurous kids. You will laugh and you will scream. I would HIGHLY recommend watching with a friend, but if no one will watch with you then you should watch this during the day.

The premise of this show is that a kid goes missing and while his friends are looking for him they unlock a government conspiracy. That’s all you get. You must watch to find out the rest of the story.

My husband and I watched season two last weekend, and it was so good. I thought the first season was amazing, but the second season blew it out of the water. Every episode of season two was a cliff hanger. Grab your treats, your fuzzy blanket, and your buddy and go watch this right now. I saved the best for last for a reason. Go do it now. You won’t regret it.

I feel like the movies on Netflix right now aren’t great, but we all know we’re just gearing up for the tidal wave of Christmas movies that is surely right around the corner. That being said, here are three movies you can surely enjoy that are on Netflix this weekend.

The Giver

The Giver

This movie is so beautiful and moving. It’s one of those post-apocalyptic movies that we all love so much. I have seen The Giver just a handful of times, but it gets sweeter and more meaningful to me each time. This is a great movie for the family to watch as it promotes great conversations about agency, morals, values, and doing the right thing even when it’s the hardest thing. Here’s a trailer to peak your interest.

Miss Congeniality

Miss Congeniality

Okay, when was the last time you watched “Miss Congeniality?” This movie is so good. My husband and I just watched it two nights ago and we just laughed! This movie gives you a perfect balance of romance, comedy, action, and suspense. Sandra Bullock plays the role of Special Agent Gracie Hart who goes undercover in the Miss USA pageant–er…scholarship program– as Miss New Jersey (aka Gracie Lou Freebush). It’s quite the transition for this Tom Boy gone Beauty Queen. The shenanigans that ensue as she searches for a terror threat in the organization are hilarious. This is such a classic. You can watch this trailer here.

The Man From Snowy River

The Man From Snowy River

Alright, I know my movies are getting older and older in this post, but once again I saved the best for last. This movie came out in the 80’s and I believe it is the reason there are so many 90’s babies named Jessica. This movie tells the story of a young man who is determined to prove himself a man and take his rightful place in the high country of Australia. Along the way he falls for the daughter of a wealthy cattle barren, and the drama unfolds! This movie is romantic, charming, and exciting. I have yet to sit my husband down to watch this one with me (it is a true chick flick) but now that it is on Netflix we will have to watch it! Here is a trailer, but bare in mind this is a trailer from the 80’s so you have to be a little understanding, haha.
